CMU competes in seven men’s and nine women’s sports, and CMU’s NCAA Division I student-athletes are accomplished in the classroom as well as on the field. The Chippewas are annual contenders for the Mid-American Conference Institutional Academic Achievement Award for the highest GPA, winning 10 times in the last 15 years. Since the 1999-2000 season, the Chippewas have won more than 40 MAC titles in 14 different sports and played in four consecutive football bowl games. CMU won the MAC’s inaugural Cartwright Award for overall program excellence in 2009. CMU athletics annually offers more than 40 individual and team summer sports camps for children in kindergarten through high school, and many of these camps are recognized among the best in Michigan. Inside the Student Activity Center (SAC) there are 2 aquatics centers with 25 yard, 6 lane pools. One of the aquatics centers offers 2 saunas, a 15 person spa and an adjustable floor to make a shallow area for children. A bowling center that has 12 bowling lanes, computerized scoring, bumper lanes, shoe rentals and glow bowl. The sports area consists of 6 full length basketball courts used for a variety of activities. The courts can be used for basketball, volleyball, badminton, indoor tennis, pickle ball, conferences, receptions and live entertainment. Specialized sports are offered by 6 full glass racquetball/wallyball courts, 6 billiards tables, table tennis, and a 3 lane indoor track. There are conference rooms for meetings, banquets, bridal showers, classes or other group gatherings. The Outdoor sports complex of the SAC includes 4 softball diamonds and 7 multi-purpose fields that can accommodate flag football, rugby, lacrosse, soccer, and cricket. Also outside is an 18 hole disc golf course that is open for public use or tournaments.
Opened in December 2010, the CMU Events Center is the area’s premier cultural, athletics and entertainment center. With more than 94,000 square feet of available space, the Events Center serves as the primary venue for all major university activities, from commencement and the annual CMU Pow wow to concerts and business expos. The space also houses five of CMU’s athletic teams – men’s and women’s basketball, volleyball, and the university’s nationally ranked gymnastics and wrestling programs. Various spaces within this year-round, multipurpose facility are available for organizations and community members to host special events. The flexibility of room size, furnishings and amenities available ensure there is something to fit your needs. The center features: A 10,000-square-foot glass-walled atrium, a redesigned arena with enhanced comfortable seating for 5,300, as well as upper- and lower-level private club lounge areas, A 10,000-square-foot practice facility, Mezzanine and outdoor patio space, Academic and cultural display areas, and Ticket office for all CMU events.
For the outdoor enthusiast, our parks offer a multitude of activities and areas that include camping, river, lake, and pond fishing, swimming, hiking, biking, cross-country ski trails, sledding hills, playgrounds, sand volleyball, horseshoes, boating, wildlife observation, various vegetation areas, picnicking wetland areas and disc golf. Other facility, feature and amenities include pavilions, boat launches, fishing platforms, mooring area, bath houses, interpretive areas, cabins, bridges and an artesian well.

Features Gymnasium with 3 full-size basketball or volleyball courts, 2 high school softball diamonds, 2 high school baseball diamonds, 2 soccer fields, Community Memorial Stadium (high school football stadium), 8 tennis courts and an 8 lane track (400 meters) for track & field events.
Features four parks, Island Park features 2 lighted full-size basketball courts, 3 softball fields, 4 lighted tennis courts and 4 sand volleyball courts. Sunnyside Park features 1 lighted full-size basketball court, 6 small sized soccer fields, 2 full size soccer fields and a tee-ball complex. Horizon Park features 1 softball diamond, 1 basketball court, 3 soccer fields, 1 football field and 1 tennis court. Pickens Field features 2 little league diamonds and 2 farm league/softball fields.
